About Course

  • 3 Years
  • Full-time

  • This course provides an opportunity to engage in current debates on education by focusing on the contemporary approaches, skills and methods used in teaching, learning and educational wellbeing, and looking at how childhood is shaped by culture and society.

Our students explore how people develop through education and, by taking part in placement and volunteering opportunities, gain a broad range of skills that are transferable to careers in socially orientated professions. Recent graduates have gone on to work in teaching, education practice, early years childcare, youth work and educational publishing or choose to progress to postgraduate level courses, such as our Education Practice MA.

You’ll cover topics including perspectives on education, thinking and learning in higher education, historical and contemporary issues, teaching diversity, how people learn, and special educational needs. You’ll also have the opportunity to choose from elective modules in years two and three that include global comparative education, technological transformations in learning, education and equality, and education and the arts.

    Key features:

    • Choose to study Education Studies as a single honours programme, or in combination with French, Mandarin, Spanish or Psychology.
    • You will study a range of topics including how people learn, teaching diversity - inclusive education and technological transformers in learning.
    • Gain international experience related to your studies through our DMU Global programme. Education Studies students have taught English to school children in Taiwan, considered inequality and segregation in New York, and supported refugees in Berlin.
    • Successful completion of the course provides a foundation to progress onto a PGCE qualification, enabling you to become a teacher in the UK.
    • Take part in our Erasmus programme for the opportunity to study in Spain, Finland or Denmark between the second and third year of your course.
    • Engage with the local community and boost your CV through placements and volunteering opportunities at schools, art and learning centres or museums.
