Disrupting Pattern Talk with Joseph Grima and Andrea Lissoni


Joseph Grima, Architect, Curator, Researcher and Editor, and Andrea Lissoni, Artistic Director at Haus Der Kunst, will be the guests of the upcoming Disrupting Pattern Talk at Domus Academy, on Wednesday 11th May.

The talk will be a dialogue between the two speakers, moderated by Ekaterina Golovatyuk, Architect and Researcher, with our students. Joseph Grima and Andrea Lissoni will share insights on their experience as Curators and Researchers at some of the most important Art and Design institutions worldwide.

Joseph Grima, Architect, Researcher and Curator based in Milan, has extensive international experience as curator, editor and writer in the fields of design and architecture. He is co-founder of Space Caviar (Milan): an architecture and research practice operating at the intersection of architecture, technology, politics and the public realm. He worked as an editor-in-chief at Domus Magazine in 2011-2013. In 2018 he was nominated as the director of the Museum of Italian Design at the Triennale di Milano. He has been the curator and director of many design exhibitions: co-director of the first Istanbul Design Biennale in 2014, Kortrijk Biennale Interieur in 2014 (with Space Caviar), installation 99 Dom-ino at 14th International Venice Biennale (with Space Caviar), co-curator with Sarah Herda of the 1st Chicago Architecture Biennale in 2015, FAR (After Oase N.7) at the Nilufar Depot in Milan (2019), Home Stories at  Vitra Design Museum in 2020.

Andrea Lissoni, PhD, is Artistic Director, Haus der Kunst, Munich, since April 2020. His research concerns the expansion of images within the field of contemporary art and includes liveness, cinematic aspects in time-based artworks, the perception of time and forms of sharing. He explores these through trans-disciplinary approaches to exhibition-making, focusing on artistic contexts across non-dominant cultures and subcultures, among which music in particular. Formerly Senior Curator, International Art (Film) at Tate Modern (since 2014) and previously curator at HangarBicocca, Milan, the co-founder of the independent network Xing and co-director of the international festival Netmage in Bologna (Live Arts Week since 2011), in 2012 he co-founded the online cinema Vdrome. At HangarBicocca he curated survey exhibitions of Angela Ricci Lucchi&Yervant Gianikian, Wilfredo Prieto, Tomas Saraceno (2012), Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Mike Kelley, (2013), Micol Assael, Joan Jonas (2014), Celine Condorelli, Philippe Parreno (2016). At Tate Modern he launched in 2016 a yearly Cinema Programme conceived as an exhibition unfolding throughout the year, he co-curated the 2017 and 2018 BMW Live Exhibition, and curated the Hyundai Turbine Hall Commission 2016 Anywhen by Philippe Parreno as well as the expanded exhibition Joan Jonas (2018).
