Learn how to design a product using digital tools. This short course introduces participants to the key processes and tools used in product design, as well as providing them with a first-hand experience of Italian design culture. Participants will discover the main 2D and 3D software tools employed in product design studios and will be guided through the key phases in the creation of a basic product design proposal, from research and conceptualisation to form definition and material specification. During the course participants will be encouraged to experiment with creativity, visualise their ideas physically, and test their proposed design solutions with sketch models and basic prototypes. Further investigation and study of contemporary product designs will be provided through seminars on manufacturing processes and materials as well as ‘Made in Italy’ as a brand and its impact in the industry. Participants will gain key skills and the ability to use software tools to translate ideas into basic product proposals supported by technical and creative materials.
Online Option:
This online course concentrates on the digital representation of product design, as well as the development of both the conceptual and design processes for a personal product proposal. Together with an introduction to product brands, marketing and trends, participants will bring together the digital work done in the first two weeks with lessons focused on how to make sketch models (digital/hand sketching). Besides, it will be shown how to make simple prototypes as part of the design and feasibility testing process. Via online sessions, participants will be supported in the development of a personal product proposal and the making of a final project presentation, accompanied by basic technical and creative materials. Online seminars with professionals from the industry will complete their online learning experience.
