Istituto Europeo di Design -IED
For more than fifty years, the Istituto Europeo di Design has been operating in the fields of education and research in the disciplines of design, fashion, visual communication and management. Today, the IED is a constantly expanding international network that issues first-level academic diplomas and organises three-year courses, Masters courses, continuous professional development and advanced training courses.
The most significant milestones in the Group’s history include the foundation of the IED campuses in Milan (1966), Rome (1973), Turin (1989), Madrid (1994), Barcelona (2002), São Paulo (2005), Venice (2007), Florence (2008) and Cagliari (2009). In 2012, the Aldo Galli Academy in Como also joined the IED Group and as of 2013 courses have commenced in Rio de Janeiro, the second IED school in Brazil.
Since 1966, the IED has developed innovative and diversified teaching methodologies, focused on synergies between technology and experimentation, creativity, strategies and integrated communication, market issues and a new form of professionalism. Thus does the Istituto Europeo di Design offer young professionals working in the fields of Fashion, Design and Communication the knowledge and the effective tools they need to cater for the constantly developing requirements of the working world.
The nexus between knowledge and know-how is the indispensable starting point for developing the cultural, creative and critical skills and competencies that are the ultimate goal of education at the IED.
Partnerships with leading enterprises are a fundamental factor in the IED’s educational strategy, featuring both at every stage throughout the didactic process and in the special events held to mark the end of every academic year. As a result of the IED’s constant, active relationship with the business world, more than 200 firms contribute in various ways every year to its student training programmes.
The faculty comprises experts and professionals with the ability to teach applied skills and a constant stream of innovation. Each individual course is run in direct contact with and supported by companies operating in the fields in question.
As a school with an international vocation, the Istituto Europeo di Design welcomes students of different nationalities and cultures to all its campuses. Some 2,000 foreign students – primarily from the Far East, Central and South America and Europe – enrol in its courses every year. To date, the IED has trained students from about 100 different countries.

This programme provides students with the creative capacity necessary to innovate in management and resources and to lead any business change. Students will also work with a teaching team made up of leading professionals from the fashion industry, who pass on both theoretical and specific technical knowledge.

Due to the frantic speed with which fashion articles are launched nowadays, and faced with consumers who are more and more demanding, it is of prime importance that products reach the final consumer exactly as they were presented, without defects, at a suitable price and in the stipulated time.
On the other hand, factors like the consolidation of new technologies, real time, the development of new markets and production decentralization, force the textile sector to be constantly seeking solutions and improvements with which they can innovate and succeed.
Starting from this premise, the master was created to train professionals in the sphere of development, management and distribution of the fashion product in its widest sense, and from an international perspective.

Can we talk today about Fashion 2.0? What is the impact of the Internet on the reality of brands and their communication strategies? How do the rules change with the new sociability, participation and communication?
The fashion phenomenon responds to the digital challenge, facing the readjustment of its rules. Social changes, new technologies, social networks, consumer evolution and the democratization of fashion have led brands to rethink their communication and marketing strategies. For many, this “digital age” has been an opportunity to make themselves known, position or even reinvent themselves. The identity of a brand is a key factor to define a comprehensive and coherent strategy, not only in the design of each collection, but also in the business model, the types of products or its target audience.
It is therefore vital that all departments work towards a single goal and give the brand recognizable and common values, thus reinforcing its positioning in a dynamic and interactive environment like the current one. On the basis if this premise we understand the importance of good communication strategies in any fashion and lifestyle business, regardless of size or position. Whether it is part of the luxury retail sector or a small artisan business, it needs an identity.
