About Accademia Costume & Moda

Accademia Costume & Moda has a long tradition in educating professionals for the Fashion, Performing Arts, Communication and Management, qualifying itself in the years as a centre of excellence for its didactic method. Founded in 1964 in Rome by Rosana Pistolese, costume and fashion historian, as well as costume designer for theater, television and cinema, as well as fashion and costume writer and publicist, with the patronage of the “Ministero del Lavoro e della Provvidenza Sociale”, the Municipality of Rome, ENALC and the “Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana”.

Thanks to the great talent and passion of its founder, the Academy has become over time “a laboratory of ideas and research, a meeting point for participation, communication and life”, establishing itself today among the 3 best fashion schools in the world. world for its three-year courses and masters in Fashion Design according to the “The Best Fashion Schools in the World 2019?of The Business Of Fashion (BoF).

Accademia Costume & Moda provides study courses legally recognized by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and falls within the sector of Higher Musical Artistic Education and Coreutica (AFAM).

Experimentation and culture, combined with design and craftsmanship, are the heart of the school, aimed at providing the Fashion System and the entertainment industry with professionals who are able to respond to the needs of companies.

The Accademia Alumni, after their academic career, enter the world of work by growing as professionals who work in the sector of Fashion and Costume, Multimedia Arts, Communication and Fashion Management, holding figures such as: Creative Directors, Head and Senior designer, Product Manager, Fashion Editor and Stylist and Costume Designer for large productions nationally and internationally.

The Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Editor, Styling & Communication has been developed to respond to the growing demand of the industry for professionals able to work in the areas of product and brand narratives in terms of Editing, Styling & Communication.

The objectives are aimed at ensuring an adequate preparation related to the methods and artistic techniques along with specific professional competences for the purpose of conveying knowledge, expressive and design method in the use of creative tools in the communication process, with specific reference to Editing, Photography, Graphics, Design, Advertising and Journalism in the fashion area.

Undergraduate Course in Fashion Design Management

The Undergraduate Course in Fashion Design Management embodies a double theme: Design as the main aim of a brand or a company that operates in the creative area of fashion is to work on design and process, on method and on the product that wants to communicate and distribute to the market effectively; Management because the final aim of this study path is to shape innovative managers able to understand and improve the processes and the complexity of companies that deal with the product and its communication, conceptual, economic and sustainable strategies that lead the DNA of a brand.

The objectives are aimed at integrating, in an interdisciplinary approach, the acquisition of historical and cultural competencies, technical subjects, theoretical-practical topics needed for the development of innovative professional profiles able to face the fashion sector and respond to present and future requirements. Responsible innovation, economic, financial and environmental sustainability are at the centre of the entire path.

Preparatory Course Foundation Course

The Foundation Course or Preparatory Course is an introductive programme to the Bachelor of Arts programmes in Costume & Fashion, Fashion Editor Styling & Communication and Fashion Design Management.

Students are introduced to the teaching and learning methods of Accademia Costume & Moda, the creative processes and to subject areas related to Fashion Design, Costume for performing arts, Fashion Communication and Design Management. For Non-Italian speakers, the course also includes the study of Italian language through a 150 hours module to be attended in September with the aim of achieving the B2 level required to access Bachelor of Arts programmes of Accademia Costume & Moda.

The main objective is to guide students towards a conscious choice in locating their direction of fashion programmes and ensuring a solid basic preparation aimed at successfully undertaking the courses of  Fashion Design, Fashion Communication and Management. The Foundation Course is conceived as a theoretical-practical study path that provides students with a solid introduction to Fashion History and Culture, History of Arts, Design Methods, Fashion Drawing, Fashion Photography and Marketing these represent the pillars in the education of designers, communicators and managers operating in the fashion field.

The Foundation Course is addressed to students with a minimum B1 level of knowledge of Italian language and holding a secondary school diploma or other equivalent study title obtained after at least 11 years of education and allowing access to first-cycle academic courses in the international education system of reference.

Master in Fashion Communication & Art Direction

The Master in Fashion Communication & Art Direction, in partnership with Giorgio Armani, Fasten Seat Belt and Slowear, is aimed at graduates and / or professionals wishing to undertake a course that offers an opportunity to explore cultural insight and practical experience within this sector.

This course is built on a cultural and curatorial approach, anthropology and sociology and history of fashion in order to culturally deepen the knowledge of global cultures that are an integral part of the social and economic system. Technological such as AI, Internet of Things, Big Data, Blockchain all require understanding from both creative and technical sides for business development, purchasing models and most importantly communication strategies. Likewise, styling, fashion filmmaking, digital graphic communication as well as the written narrative, the art of writing and storytelling that is effective in a world that will become more and more virtual and more and more analog based.

The Master course aims to create highly qualified professionals that are ready to develop a career in the highly competitive international Fashion System within the context of communication, understood in its broadest and most contemporary meaning. Students who successfully complete the course will be able to interpret a great variety of techniques in the promotion and representation of brand image. They will acquire the cultural and design skills enabling them to curate fashion exhibitions and presentations as an expression of a visual language. Also work professionally in the construction of narratives and texts for omnichannel publications, working effectively with the ability to create using the most recent technologies and knowing the latest innovations to define communication strategies. They will also be able to manage their professional futures in the constantly evolving and profoundly changing sector.

At the end of the Master in Fashion Communication & Art Direction students will be able to pursue a professional career in the fashion and creative industries as Digital Managers, Communication Managers, Event Managers, Stylists, Journalists, Art Directors. Master in Creative Direction for the Performing Arts

The Master in Creative Direction for the Performing Arts is aimed at graduates and / or professionals wishing to experience a professional curriculum based on the development of the creative potential of an artist, a festival, a record label. This also includes strategic management skills of a cultural production center, innovative and creative development of the performing entertainment sector in its broadest sense. The programme provides a broad and global vision of the cultural, artistic and creative industry in Italy and internationally, with particular reference to the performing arts: music, theatre and dance.

The objective of the Master is the preparation of a new generation of professionals experienced in the management and creation of the visual identity of musicians, actors, dancers and performers, as well as of brands, and of the reputation of cultural organizations (theatres, festivals, reviews), artistic agencies, record companies and production companies.

Upon completion of the Master in Creative Direction for the Performing Arts students will be able to pursue a professional career within art agencies, record companies, cultural institutions and production houses, as well as in the marketing and communication departments of theatres, festivals and concert halls. Also collaborating as expert consultants and freelancers directly with artists, musicians, actors, dancers and performers. As Creative Director of the performing arts able to develop and enhance the newest skills, opportunities, contents and scenarios for their clients.

Master in Fashion Sustainability & Industry Evolution

The Master in Fashion Sustainability & Industry Evolution, in partnership with Salvatore Ferragamo, Bonaudo and Project Officina Creativa, integrates cultural and design disciplines, examining the entire production cycle (Design, Production, Sales and Distribution, Defection, Return Goods – Shipping, Storage), the business models, legal areas, communication and scientific study areas that are in continuous evolution. In this context, the sociology of cultural processes and the history of fashion have a strong focus on sustainability, addressing it both in the contemporary social and communicative context and in recent history to analyze it concretely. The competence in the merit of materials, processes and production technologies includes international certifications that affect the various sectors of the sector and the design part that analyzes the system in its entirety and faces the challenge of the tangible application of the skills acquired.

Product culture, which is the basis of the concept of sustainability, is at the center of the Master which implements an approach to the system in its entirety since the solutions for complex problems involve skills ranging from environmental to social and economic factors. The student’s planning is compared with specific themes that require a creative thinking and problem-solving approach and a vast wealth of knowledge. The complexity of the processes involves the construction within companies of a multiplicity of specific skills based on a scientific, solid and clear approach that are part of the course, which main learning objective is to design new professional figure aware of responsible innovation processes across the economic, environmental and social fields.

At the end of the Master in Fashion Sustainability & Industry Evolution, participants will be able to pursue a professional career in fashion companies in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and in the supply chain, they will also be able to deal with responsible innovation and operate as consultants on a global level.
