      BA/BA (Hons) in Arts curating

      • 3 Years |  Full-Time

The contemporary world imposes a new way of thinking about art, about cultural heritage and more generally, the system of creativity. Boosting cultural crossovers and overlaps, for hybridised and mixed subject fields such as visual arts, fashion, design, photography, film, performance, and new media, is the way the three-year Arts Curating course redefines the experience of art.

Talking about “art” or the “arts” is not just a linguistic choice, it is an authentic stance: recognising an extremely vast range of languages and disciplines that now characterise contemporary cultural production. In a society where transformation is so continuous and rapid, even the concept of art needs to be reformulated in order to achieve a more extensive, flexible definition, able to encompass the ever new stimuli and proposals.

This is the foundation of the three-year course in Arts Curating which uses a dynamic, innovative approach, made of constant forays and interdisciplinary dialogues, proposing a perfect mix of solid training in theory and a professional outlook that will meet the challenges of two systems: culture and creativity, together with their constant changes.

The aim of the course is to train professionals who are able to convey culture and promote the historic and artistic heritage, reinventing the art experience through the concepts of contamination, eclecticism and digital experimentation. In this perspective, curating and writing become two tools to construct display and exhibition projects, publishing contributions and media content, where historical knowledge, critical thought, and technological innovation come together with their gaze focused on the art of the future.

      Undergraduate in Interior design intensive

      • 1 Year |  Full-Time

Planning an interior space means creating a story of styles, moods, colour and light, reflecting contemporary lifestyle living, or interpreting a theme from a given design brief. For those with limited time available, this course provides the technical and theoretical concepts related to interior spaces, looking at the methodologies in developing a concept, and the applicable representation techniques of an interior design project. Participants begin looking at various interior styles for domestic space, including the impact of furnishings, materials and fabrics, patterns, colours and shades, progressing onto more complex projects in commercial retail, and leisure spaces (e.g. restaurants, bars, leisure clubs). They understand how to introduce the concept and vision of a luxury brand in their designs and analyse various design trends, different furniture styles and the concepts of scale and proportion. With an introduction to technical drawing skills (CAD) and freehand sketching techniques participants are able to demonstrate perspective in design proposals, and prepare project layouts. They learn how to evaluate and prepare interior colour charts and manage their own sketchbook of research and moodboards. As well as key design skills, successful interior designers respond to the ‘identity’ of a space. They work toward producing ‘sensations’, taking on-board demands of physical wellbeing and performance needs of the space in question. Participants investigate the relationship between location, building, design and space researching and analysing their influences on emotions combined with functionality. Key historical moments in interior design further assist creative thinking, and development of their own individual style and ‘signature’ in a design proposal. Throughout the course focus is given to the needs and creativity of interiors specific to the dynamic and competitive world of fashion and luxury.

      Trend Forecasting

        Full-time

Short courses cover a variety of subjects, levels and duration to suit all preferences, and are also the perfect ‘taster’ or introduction to fashion programmes, useful when considering more intensive study, or for future career path development.

Due to globalisation, fashion brands and fashion products aim to meet the desires and requests of consumers on a worldwide scale. Meanwhile, local and subcultural trends are constantly emerging, creating a knock-on effect to change what is ‘fashionable’, or directly influencing sales of the most ‘desirable’ fashion products. This short course in trend forecasting looks at the interaction of shifts in fashion, consumer lifestyle and culture, and some of the key methods used to perceive upcoming trends, and predict what consumers are willing to buy several seasons ahead of time. Participants are shown forecasting skills, and discover how to contextualise and interpret information to construct the basis of a trend preview: an assembling of work, and research, that goes beyond simple ‘fashion intuition’.

Week 1 The course begins with an introduction to two different types of forecasting; intuitive and predictive, the difference in both research techniques, and the companies that deliver such services. Analysing lifestyle is paramount for every trend forecaster and important to enhance participants understanding of the influence and power that trends have on fashion and design. During the week they will discover how high culture, popular culture, and subcultures influence key trends in fashion, in a variety of ways. At this point in the course they are also shown specific research skills, focusing primarily on where to locate source material and how to read current trends.

Week 2 During the second week, participants will learn how to capture, analyse, interrogate and read their initial findings. They collate and present multimedia resource material into a trend story or basic trend preview concept, and are shown skills of extracting key colours, textures and silhouettes for themes in fashion design. At the end of the week participants will draw together a simple trend-forecasting package or ‘preview’ of related trends including for example, colour and fabric samples, silhouette and design detail ideas.  They present and ‘pitch’ their ideas to tutors and peers for additional feedback and a valuable exchange of their research and forecasting outcomes.
